ThePowerOfTheDog director Jane Campion responds to Sam Elliott's controversial comments about her movie: 'I think it’s really unfortunate and sad for him because he’s really hit the trifecta of misogyny and xenophobia and homophobia.'

The Power of the Dog director Jane Campion has responded to Sam Elliott's criticism of her movie, and she isn't taking it lightly. Of this year's crop of Oscar movies, Campion's The Power of the Dog holds the most nominations and is the favorite to win in certain categories. The Western drama is based on Thomas Savage's novel of the same name and centers on brutal cowboy Phil Burbank , a man who takes pleasure in tearing others down.

“I think it’s really unfortunate and sad for him because he’s really hit the trifecta of misogyny and xenophobia and homophobia. I don’t like that. I think he was being a little bit of a b-i-t-c-h. Plus he’s not a cowboy, he’s an actor.

‘Power of the Dog’ Star Jesse Plemons ‘Laughed’ When He Heard Sam Elliot’s Criticisms of the Oscar-Nominated FilmThePowerOfTheDog star Jesse Plemons isn't thinking too much about Sam Elliott's criticism of the western: 'I know there’s some undertones to what he said, but I also feel like you don’t have to like the movie and that’s totally fine.' Sam Elliott's criticism is absurd. Sam Elliot is Western royalty. Anyone (including Benedict) scoffing at that doesn’t server to be in one. I didn’t like-like the movie. The acting was solid. Sam is right though.
