Severe Weather News

Houston,Weather,Storms

Tuesday has ended up staying mostly quiet for the time being. That looks to change Wednesday morning.

Most of the stronger storms, at least as of around 4 p.m., have stayed north of the Houston area closer to a warm front. It is possible the quiet period will last for the day Tuesday before a big change Wednesday morning with a potentially damaging line of storms that is forecasted to move through.A large portion of southeast Texas remains in either a level 3 enhanced risk or level 2 slight risk of seeing severe weather Tuesday afternoon and evening. The graphic above is effective through 6 a.m.

These storms could pack a punch. Even though it will be dark outside, the atmosphere will be quite supportive of severe weather. All hazards will be possible with these storms. A few tornadoes, some of which could be strong, appear possible on the edge of the line of storms and with any storm that may try to form ahead of the line. I am also particularly concerned about the potential for damaging winds with this line of storms.

The good news is these storms should be moving pretty quickly and once they pass your area, the severe weather threat should be over. With severe storms looking to be a good bet Wednesday morning, I think its important to go over some safety tips in case you need to take shelter from the storm. Have a way to receive weather warnings. This is especially important since this line of storms will be before the sun comes up when many people are sleeping. Be ready to move to a safe area if a tornado warning is issued for your area.

If a tornado warning is issued, go to an interior room in your house. It could be a bathroom or closet, away from windows. The idea is to try to put as many walls between you and the outside. If you are in a mobile home, get out. Find a sturdier structure to take shelter in. Tornadoes and also severe winds associated with thunderstorms can pick up and flip mobile homes easily, even if they are tied down.
