Portland Hits 113, Seattle Reaches 106 In Second Day Of All-Time Record Heat

, Oregon—the state capital—reached 117 degrees on Monday afternoon, setting a new record for the city and coming just two degrees shy of the hottest temperature ever recorded in the state of Oregon, a record set in 1898.at an elevation of 1,150 feet on Larch Mountain in eastern Clark County, Washington, did not drop below 94 degrees Sunday night, which the National Weather Service attributes to a warm east wind blowing in all night..

But a high pressure system known as a heat dome that's parked itself over the area has brought scorching conditions, much like another heat dome thatto the southwest U.S. earlier this month. Conditions should moderate in cities near the coast over the coming days, but hot conditions won't let up in more interior areas for the foreseeable future. Spokane, Washington, is expected to reach an all-time record high of 112 on Tuesday, with highs staying above 100 until early next week.
