Older adults who have significant difficulty falling asleep and who experience frequent night awakenings are at high risk for developing dementia or dying early from any cause, a new study finds.

Are you a night owl or morning lark? One may protect you from depression, study says"These results contribute to existing knowledge that sleep plays a very important role, each and every night, for reducing our longer term risk for neural cognitive decline and all cause mortality," said study author Rebecca Robbins, an instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School who specializes in sleep research.

But it was the people who had a lot of problems falling and staying asleep that had the highest risk of either dementia or dying early from any cause.8 ways to fall back asleep after waking in the night"We found a 56% increased risk of dementia and an 80% greater risk of all cause mortality over the following eight years among those who experienced both concurrent sleep difficulties -- falling asleep or waking from sleep," Robbins said.

And here I thought waking up 4 times a night was so I didn't pee the bed. 🤦‍♂️

Have a sleep study and work with physician.

Plus all the magnesium to help with the nighttime leg cramps makes me poop more than I've recently eaten.

so, does falling asleep between 12-3am on the couch every night to the tv, with all the lights on, and grumbling up ten minutes before work to sit in front of your home computer all day count as 'poor sleep'? My husband is fucked.

From any cause!? I wake up often at night does this mean I can die from pancakes.... Any cause wise up like 🙄

My brother in law has it he’s 83 and still alive , thank you shove your research
