A man was shot and stabbed early Thursday in northeast Houston and detectives were investigating whether it was in self-defense during a domestic violence struggle, officials said. The man was taken to the hospital in serious condition, Lt. Ronnie Willkens of the Houston Police Department told Metro Video Services reporters. Dispatchers around 3 a.m. received two calls in quick succession — the first about a disturbance, the second about a shooting — and sent officers to the 6700 block of Bennington Street, Willkens said. They found a man outside an apartment with a gunshot wound to the abdomen and stab wounds to both of his arms.
Witnesses told investigators the man had been in an argument with a woman who lived with him and she might have shot and stabbed him in self-defense, Willkens said. A young child also had been at the apartment during the shooting but was uninjured.
