Police investigating 'crime scene' at Elmhurst Portillo's as barricade situation ends

ABC7 Chicago Digital TeamPolice urged the community to stay away from the Elmhurst Crossing Shopping Center at St. Charles on Wednesday morning.The large law enforcement presence started to clear the area after nearly a two-hour long standoff at a west suburb Portillo's.

Around 6:30 a.m. policed issued a community alert urging the public to stay away from the Elmhurst Crossing shopping center at St. Charles and IL Route 83.A man was inside the closed restaurant reportedly armed with a knife, according to Elmhurst police.Chopper 7 was over the scene that showed a SWAT teams at 8 a.m.

Police urged the community to stay away from the Elmhurst Crossing Shopping Center at St. Charles on Wednesday morning. By 9 a.m. law enforcement surrounded the Portillo's with crime scene tape and began to leave the area.Elmhurst Crossing Shopping Center was cleared to open.
