San Diego police are investigating a report that a man tried to kidnap a 9-year-old girl near Shoal Creek Elementary School in Carmel Mountain Ranch on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the girl was waiting for her mother to pick her up from school near the intersection of Shoal Creek Drive and Stoney Gate Place about 2 p.m. when a man walked up and told her to follow him. When the child refused, the man grabbed her by her wrist and dragged her, but the girl broke free and ran to safety, police Lt. Adam Sharki said.The assailant was described as possibly Latino and 5 feet 11 inches, with a slim build. He was wearing a face mask, dark pants, black shoes and may have had a backpack. The victim told police the man smelled strongly of alcohol.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the San Diego Police Department at 531-2000 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 580-8477.
