The container ship lost power and rammed into the major bridge causing the span to buckle into the river below.
Federal and state officials have said the crash appeared to be an accident. Investigators on Wednesday plan to collect evidence on the ship, including electronics and paperwork, said National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy. Police said there is no evidence anyone went into the water other than the workers, though they had not discounted the possibility.
“I know that a month ago, I was there, and I know what it feels like when the trailers pass,” Campos said. “Imagine knowing that is falling. It is so hard. One would not know what to do.” “Losing this bridge will devastate the entire area, as well as the entire East Coast,” state Sen. Johnny Ray Salling said.
The 985-foot-long Dali was headed from Baltimore to Colombo, Sri Lanka, and flying under a Singapore flag, according to data from Marine Traffic.

Dallas Police Officer Shot in Undercover Operation on Road to RecoveryThe Dallas police officer who was shot overnight Wednesday said he is on the road to recovery. Tyler Morris suffered a bullet wound in his hip while working undercover in Southeast Oak Cliff. Police said he was following a car that was driving erratically.
