A Pokémon fan has discovered that the Generation One Pokémon Porygon is literally made up of 50 polygons. The classic pocket monster is a Normal-type Pokémon that was created by Silph Co. in Kanto's Cinnabar Lab. Porygon is an artificial Pokémon made completely out of programming code, thus allowing it to exist in cyberspace. It is also the first Pokémon to have been created using computer programming.
Porygon is one of the most recognized Pokémon outside of the Pokémon franchise. However, this recognition has come at a cost."Electric Soldier Porygon," Porygon's debut episode in the Pokémon anime series, caused an absolute panic when it first aired in 1997. In one of the final scenes of that episode, Pikachu used Thunderbolt, which set off flashes of blue and red across TV screens all over Japan.
Porygon's reputation has improved since the nineties. The artificial Pokémon has appeared in several video games throughout the years, including the most recent Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. In fact, fans can find Porygon and variations including Porygon2 in BDSP. To evolve their Porygon into Porygon2 and Porygon-Z, players need to hold an item and trade with a friend.
While Sorakannabinol's 50-polygon fact doesn't seem to have been previously disclosed online, reactions to the post on Reddit have been positive. Despite being one of the older Pokémon in the franchise, it's impressive that facts are still being uncovered, and there's perhaps many more Gen-One Pokémon tidbits still to learn.
