Tomorrow again may feel like 105 to 110 degrees, borderline dangerous with prolonged exposure

High temperatures across the region are nearing and beating record high temperatures for Saturday’s date. Dulles Airport hit at least 99 degrees, tying its 1988 record. Baltimore Washington International Airport recorded at least 101 degrees, breaking its 1988 record of 100. And National Airport posted at least 98 degrees, still below its 101-degree record.

If any storm or two pops up, they should die off quickly by mid-evening. Otherwise it’s partly cloudy and fairly swampy with heat index values staying in the 90s much of the night. The thermometer may only dip into the mid-70s to low 80s. This may tie or beat record-warm low temperatures for the date. We’ll keep you posted.

Similar to Saturday, and starting from dangerously warm low temperatures, we may get to the mid-90s to around 100 degrees. Morning sun could turn to afternoon cloudiness, perhaps preventing a record high temperature. Combine this with the high humidity, and it may feel like 105 to 110 degrees at times. Midafternoon and later, we have chances for a few showers and storms.

A couple of strong to severe storms are possible from afternoon into perhaps the late evening hours. Breezes from the southwest may occasionally gust near 20 mph, but we doubt their moisture-laden air will feel all that refreshing. Showers and storms should wane a bit in intensity but may continue into the early morning hours as the cold front moves through slowly. Soupy 70s are as cool as we’ll get.

To put this into perspective, experiencing an impact from a severe storm on Sunday is less likely than experiencing an impact from the dangerously high heat index values.A little self-awareness goes a long way as Nationals batter Rockies
