A Plano man was sentenced to 50 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of attacking a man with a knife and vehicle, leaving him paralyzed. The robbery, which was captured on surveillance video, showed Aguilar approach the victim Aug. 27, 2021, at a storage facility in the 4200 block of K Avenue.

Aguilar, who had a knife, demanded the victim give him his work trailer before he stabbed the man several times in the neck and head, according to the Collin County district attorney’s office. The victim was left on the ground bleeding as Aguilar searched his storage unit and took money from the man’s vehicle.Another customer at the facility found the victim and called 911. Aguilar was arrested at nearby intersection after he crashed into multiple cars, the DA’s office said.

The victim was taken to the hospital, where surgeons removed the tip of Aguilar’s knife from the back of his neck, officials said. The attack paralyzed him in both legs and paralyzed him almost completely in both arms. The man was able to recount events to police after the attack, and he testified at last week’s trial.

“Brutal acts of violence, especially those with permanent consequences for the victim, deserve permanent consequences for the perpetrator as well,” District Attorney Greg Willis said in a written statement. “We are thankful that the victim survived his life-altering injuries and was brave enough to later come testify in court. While the lives of the victim and his family will never be the same, Collin County is a safer place with Aguilar behind bars.
