The Plano non-profit recently broke ground on a career services center to expand its services to adults with developmental disabilities.Plano-based nonprofit My Possibilities plans to open a new career services building by mid-2023 that will expand its services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The building will house programs that focus on career readiness, job placement, and extensive coaching for these adults and the companies employing them, My Possibilities stated inAmong the programs will be job training and certificates for customer service, retail, administrative support, culinary arts, technology basics, hospitality, and more.A groundbreaking ceremony was held on May 5, following a two-year delay prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic, My Possibilities stated.

“We hope that this building serves as the example, a beacon, and a light bulb for organizations and people across the country that this population should be given an opportunity to continue learning, continue training, and to step into a job that they are proud of, and the world will accept them for,” Michael Thomas, executive director of My Possibilities, said in a prepared statement.

Once complete, the 20-acre campus, located just north of the President George Bush Turnpike in Plano, will house the Fischer Family School of Life Skills, a career services building, a therapy and communications center, a wellness center, an outdoor sports complex, dormitories, and a retail center focused on training and employing adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

My Possibilities is also developing a 300-home, 180-acre inclusive residential community in Garland known as Mission Hills.
