Fire officials in Florida say no one was seriously injured after a small plane crashed into the Caloosahatchee River, near Fort Myers, with the pilot deploying the aircraft’s emergency parachute.

Iona McGregor Fire District confirmed a flight instructor and a student were onboard the plane when it crashed into the water.

The two had a mid-air issue, and they pulled the plane’s parachute and landed safely in the water. No injuries were reported, according to fire crews.The pilot of a single-engine Cirrus SR22 declared an emergency due to engine issues while inbound to Page Field in Fort Myers, Florida, at 7:40 p.m. local time.

The pilot activated the plane’s emergency parachute. The aircraft landed on the Caloosahatchee River near Cape Coral Parkway.The crash is being investigated.
