Texas Longhorns signee Tyler Walton has had a ton of success at Johnson , but he had a huge setback during his freshman year. The 6-foot-1 pitcher started his career at Johnson as a quarterback on the football team until he suffered a stress fracture in his elbow. This injury required two surgeries on the elbow, effectively ending his tenure playing football at Johnson . Walton came back from injury and played baseball sparingly during his sophomore season, but he wasn't fully healthy.
He also helped the Jaguars advance to the Region IV-6A finals, where they lost to Austin Westlake. “His junior year not only physically did he mature but emotionally he did too,” Gesell said. “He learned how to handle himself better and he's always had a good dynamic arm, but his work ethic had caught up with his physical body.” After his junior season, Division I offers came in from Baylor, UTSA and Texas State.
