was the first [Pink Floyd album] that was genuinely thematic and genuinely about something.” And as artists like Radiohead and Flaming Lips can attest, the album’s music and lyrics still hold up beautifully today.was the first Pink Floyd album to feature Roger Waters as its sole lyricist., butmarked the first — though definitely not the last — time that the bassist took the lyrical reins for an entire Floyd LP.

. “To try and drag it kicking and screaming back from the borders of space, from the whimsy that Syd [Barrett, the band’s original leader, who had written the bulk of the material onThough Waters’ lyrical dominance onessentially planted the seeds for the massive rift that would eventually occur between him and the rest of the band, it was actually welcomed at the time. “I never rated myself terribly highly in the lyrics department, and Roger wanted to do it,” Gilmour admitted toin 2011.

“The way one track flowed into another was an extremely important part of the overall feel,” Alan Parsons told Rolling Stone in 2011. “So we could work on the transitions as part of the recording process rather than just part of the mixing process.” 4. The original live arrangement of “On the Run” bore little resemblance to the electronic freakout on the record.songs played live by the band in 1972, “On the Run” was the one that was most radically transformed in the studio. That's impossible. I was sure I'm only 29. Have been for years.

The songs are awesome live

Was going to say, bet you didn't know I heard all of Dark Side almost a year before release, but you knew that. But did you know if you find MTVs Guitar Greats concert at the Capital Theater in Nov 1984 you'll see David Gilmour AND Steve Cropper play Green Onions ? I did Awesome

Here’s something you might not know about the war in Ukraine

There is nothing I don’t know about pinkfloyd. ☺️ Actually, regarding 4 on your list, I think you are wrong: “Travel Sequence” is more related to “Any colour you like”, than it is to “On the run”. 🤷‍♂️

I feel strongly this should be recognized as an international holiday...

Congratulations!🌹

Wore it out.

My very cool uncle brought this album to me and my brother in summer of ‘73, so he could rock our worlds and also trip the whole 2 weeks he visited us in Texas. Every kid in the neighborhood was jealous of this mind-blowing album. My uncle retains rock star status in my heart❣️

Here’s one you don’t know.... it wasn’t Psychedelic ...

morgfair Whenever I listen to it, I think “this is def Floyd’s greatest album.” But when I listen to their others, I think the same thing! 🤷‍♂️

love this one also

Premunition I saw Roger Waters do this live at Summerfest. Hands down, best show I ever saw. I could still listen to this album cover-cover.

Easily one of my top 3 albums. ❤️

Another boomer record. You should be listening to Asian boy bands and 21 pilots.

My bro bought me 2 of the album on this very day, my dad encased one, unopened in glass..I've moved numerous times so my sister has it hanging in one of her guest rooms in her home!! I went to their Dark Side Of The Moon tour in Phoenix as a teenager with my brother it was great!

Legendary album from start to finish 👌

🙏🎸👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍

darrellbricker Saw their show at the Gardens that year (March?). It was not like other shows!!!!

One of the greatest ever

Wrong! It’s mentioned in Pink Floyd’s book “Shine on”, that was accompanied in the boxset in 1992. It states March 24 1973. You also notice that Pink Floyd hasn’t marked the occasion. The US release... UK release...

Kris_Sacrebleu Money all time great song along with Ball of Confusion by Temptations

Name me a better rock album. Wait, you can't. Speak to Me Breathe (In the Air) On the Run Time The Great Gig in the Sky Money Us and Them Any Colour You Like Brain Damage Eclipse Lyrics

Best re-visioning/cover of the album I've heard: Special broadcast with the musician: 8PM CT

That’s about right.

Ping clementd and _dupdob_ : birthday listening!!!

Why didn’t you wait 2more years to announce it as 50th anniversary? Why the rush?
