Armstrong Williams takes on the news of the week and asks the questions you want answered. Don't miss our weekly town hall. For the second night in a row, Utah ns found themselves in the center of a significant geomagnetic storm that brought northern lights to the Beehive State.
The storm had peaked at a G5, or "extreme" level on the space weather conditions scale Friday night into Saturday when the aurora borealis could first be seen.Officials of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said the ongoing storm will ramp up again on Sunday, noting that they still expect a secondary peak in this current weather pattern.
Throughout the day, a G4 or Greater Watch will remain in effect for the uppermost portion of North America, excluding Utah. The Watch suggests an incoming collision of Earth's magnetic field with large ejections of particles from the Sun's outermost atmosphere. If the conditions are right, officials said the northern lights could be visible in areas of the northern U.S. and Canada.
