Texans across the state shared vibrant photos of the Northern Lights visible on Friday night.

The Northern Lights were visible across the country Friday night, and Texans were pointing their eyes — and their cameras — skyward to capture the rare event. Due to geomagnetic storms caused by solar explosions, the aurora borealis can be spotted this weekend over Texas in a unique phenomenon that experts are calling “unusual and potentially historic.

Texans who were lucky enough to get their own sighting of the aurora borealis took to social media to show off the gorgeous view. Geomagnetic storms will continue Saturday and into Sunday, so there’s still a chance to view the Northern Lights if you missed it Friday. Viewers in northern Texas are most likely to see the aurora borealis, Bettwy said, although chances are higher on Sunday than Saturday.
