Statements from the defence ministries of both countries said Washington would be given access to four more locations under an Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement dating back to 2014.
The United States had allocated more than $82 million toward infrastructure investments at the existing five sites under the EDCA, the statements said. EDCA allows U.S. access to Philippine military bases for joint training, pre-positioning of equipment and the building of facilities such as runways, fuel storage and military housing, but not a permanent presence.
U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was in Manila for talks as Washington seeks to extend its security options in the Philippines as part of efforts to deter any move by China against self-ruled Taiwan.
There are roughly 750 US foreign military bases; they are spread across 80 nations! China has one in Djibouti. So please tell me.. Which nation should we be worried about as a potential aggressor
Disgusting
Thank you, POTUS
All I can say is it’s about time.
How many military bases does the US have abroad? How many does China have? These seem like important context to the suggestion this is to “counter China in the region”.
and that's how the war started in Ukraine
US puppet ever since!
💪
If the Americans hadn’t behaved with such arrogance (& barbarity to the locals) for decades they would never have been ejected from Subic Bay in the 1st place
Philippines looking to get themselves into a tug of war scenario I see! Bout to be a long '23
Good move
We love the Philippines. Literally friends forever ❤️ great place to vacation too. Some roasted pork on the beach after spending the day playing in their rivers and waterfalls. Cant beat it. Great hospitality and people.
Another Marcos another US base. SecDef actually works for the State Department not the men and women of the US armed forces. POTUS is feeling imperialistic. This would be a clown show but this sh$t show is hurting all people on earth. ChuckGrassley Jim_Jordan RepMattGaetz
this move moves negotiations further from the table. why now? china has been doing this for decades in the south china sea.
The more a nation accepts US military bases, the more that nation loses their sovereignty.
