Jalen Carter said heading into Thursday’s first round of the NFL Draft that the Philadelphia Eagles told him if he was there they would take him with the 10th-pick.
That wasn’t true because the Birds weren’t willing to wait. Instead, Philadelphia traded up and took the Georgia Bulldogs’ star ninth-overall. And in doing so, the Eagles landed the guy who entered the draft process favored to be the first-overall pick, before off-the-field concerns led to him sliding down boards. Philadelphia, coming off a run to the Super Bowl, suffered some big-time losses via free agency on defense. Now it adds Carter to a defensive line that features, Jordan Davis, another former Bulldogs star who the team took in the first-round last season.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said Philadelphia gave up a fourth-round pick to move up and select Carter.
