On Wednesday, Saskatoon city council will consider restrictions at Clarence Avenue and Main Street that were rejected in 2003 and 2013. yxe

Then in 2013, the administration proposed the same measure, but abandoned it due to “mixed support” from the neighbourhoods on either side of Clarence .This latest initiative began in response to complaints about safety from “several residents,” according to the page on the city’s website that outlines the flimsy justification for this major change.

This move smacks of the bizarre and baffling 2020 decision to restrict access to the Sid Buckwold Bridge from, despite evidence suggesting that speeds and traffic volume on Ninth were fine and dandy. So the city has spent who knows how much time and money pursuing this non-issue because of higher than desirable traffic on one side of Clarence. It’s so laughable it would be touring comedy clubs if there were any left.

City hall acknowledges this as a problem, but hey, “short-cutting” would be “discouraged.” Discouraged, not prevented.Article contentThis scheme is headed to council without first being considered at committee, where it would have got more attention and, undoubtedly, attracted more opposition.

why doesn't city hall just build a BRIDGE over the clarence ave-main street intersection ? A move like that would be right up their alley
