According to the latest count, Pezeshkian has won more than 8,300,000 votes and Jalili, a former nuclear negotiator, has 7,100,000, with a second round of voting likely on July 5 to decide the winner.

Pezeshkian is at 42.3 percent, according to a spokesman from the country's election headquarters, who said candidate Saeed Jalili is following in the four-candidate race with 39.5 percent with over 14 million votes counted since ballot boxes were opened at midnight. The initial results came after the 14th presidential elections in Iran concluded after an 18-hour voting process.

An estimated 64 million voters in Iran were eligible to vote in the election, the majority of whom are young. In the 2021 presidential election, 59.3 million were eligible to vote.
