Joe Marks has been named chief technology officer at Peter Jackson's Weta Digital, where he will oversee the Wellington, NZ-based studio's technology initiatives in visual effects as well as the recently announcedBest known for the VFX inand upcoming projects includes Marvel'sMarks joins Weta from Carnegie Mellon University, where he served as executive director of its Center for Machine Learning & Health.
An active member of SIGGRAPH, his research interests span computer graphics, video processing, media distribution, robotics, human-computer interaction, mobile computing, computer vision, artificial intelligence, sensors, embedded systems and behavioral economics. "The addition of Joe Marks allows us to go deeper and push further into the technical innovations that will define the next generation of storytelling," said four-time Oscar winner and Weta's senior VFX supervisor Joe Letteri.
