While the coat made a loud fashion statement, animal rights group PETA was not as impressed, calling out the "Love Don't Cost a Thing" singer for what they said was an unnecessarily cruel fashion choice. "This flag could have flown without killing birds," read a tweet from PETA. "Dozens of birds were KILLED for this #SuperBowl #PepsiHalfTime performance." The tweet also included side-by-side images of a triumphant Lopez spreading the flag coat's arms out next to an image of dead, plucked birds hanging on hooks in a processing plant.
