washingtoncompost is full of hatred everyday. Bias opinions and perspectives! Why don’t you just provide news and facts? EnemyOfThePeople

Prrsidents are not kings or absolute rulers. Firing a special prosecutor investigating the presidency is a step too far.

You mean critical to the destruction of our democracy, don't you?

His inquiry is a sham put up by the Democrats on the basis of false narrative paid for by Hillary Clinton. If he had any integrity he would resign. He is colluding with Democrats to destroy democracy by trying to overturn an election.

revile Trump and would seek his removal immediately. As I read the proposed legis, it applies to a singular case and Congressional intent would be the basis of future court decisions regarding the statute. We are in extraordinary times which require extraordinary measures.

Sadly, unpersuasive. To think that Trump represents the will of the people is an absurd fantasy. He represents the will of some of the people and he is in no way the representative of all the people. The House is far more representative of the people a clear majority of whom

BOB MUELLER is America’s number one enemy of the people !!

Trump better not fire him. The prostitute press, ,, all 9 of them would suddenly turn on him Just joking the prostitute press has been all over him from the begining, and so far he is still going

Why do you post shit like this? Don't present opinion as if it were fact.

It is such a joy to such a high level of discussion and to read a well-thought and well-written piece on an important political issue.

Haven't u heard the old rule that the INCONVENIENT ones are ALWAYS under attack/criticism/persecution/expulsion?

Congress should re-enact the Independent Prosecutor statute (under which e.g. Lawrence Walsh served). It lapsed in 1999.

Trump has said, many times, that he is not going to fire him. Only one thing that would stop Mueller at this point. Declassification.

Is the investigation even legal? What is the basis for all of this two years later?

Trump has no right to fire Mueller

Excuse me.

Absolutely

Foolish and groundless reasoning. The president has no power to fire here, constitutional or otherwise. Furthermore, 28 CFR 600.7 (d) provides that: 'The Special Counsel may be disciplined or removed from office only by the personal action of the Attorney General.' cont'd

2/ cont'g 28 CFR 600.7:'...The [AG]may remove a Special Counsel for misconduct, dereliction of duty, incapacity, conflict of interest, or for other good cause, including violation of [DoJ] policies. The {AG} shall inform the Special Counsel in writing of the specific reason...

Yesssss

Except he is a conflict on interest in even entertaining the idea of firing him. So yes on your first premise but Trump the stump does not have the right to fire Mueller.

He really needs to keep creating crimes to try to entrap those who have committed no crimes through intimidation.

How long will it take

Hack job

just a reminder that lawfare also supported Kavanaugh

Lol, This narrative is for old people that don’t know anything about computers. The real story is the fbi was turned away by dnc when asked to produce server. Then Killary took a hammer to her devices.

Firing Mueller would be to stop an investigation. It would be obstruction of justice by the US president.

Mueller has never and never will find anything because there is nothing to find, this is just a scam to uphold the gov't and distract the public from all the Obama/Clinton collusions and scandals that are coming out.

FU

So the idiot has absolute power I don’t think so! The man is a selfish scoundrel & is not fit to represent a democratic government!

Wtf go away

No, AND, IN FACT, the departments of the government should no longer work for or be beholden to a president from one party or another. For the government to run smoothly, it needs to be neutral. Remove those powers and place them in a neutral 4th arm of government.

This is a nutty article. Logic doesn't hold up under scrutiny. A convoluted argument aimed at promoting right wing dogma while masquerading as a scholarly analysis. In other words BS.

What?!? It’s the president’s right to commit (further) obstruction of justice? Your position is that the president is above the law? Nah

. denverpost The problem is Trump fires anyone that disagrees with him to protect his own agenda not for the good of our country I disagree that Trump should have that right Congress needs to protect the investigation

Did this have to be posted?

Was he fired? No? Change your headline!

Haha classic both sides to something that's imperative to the function of our democracy!

How’d that work for Nixon BananaRepublic

Apparently, abuse of power is a right of the President according to and necessary to save our democracy. WTF?

USA FEDERAL USA CIA FBI MUST. GATE DONE THE JOB USA NASA IS IN CYBER OPERATIONS GPS OPERATIONS

This inquiry should have never taken place in the first place. It was pressure from Democrats and the weak GOP capitulating to this baseless investigation costing millions and coming up empty.

Unsubscribe.

Will then, your saying a criminal can fire the judge or jury? No president should have the right to fire a prosecutor if he is the one under investigation. This needs to be fixed.

after over 2 years and all the investigators.. over 30 million dollars.. if he hasn't found anything yet either.. there's nothing there or he's the wrong man for the job...

You are basing the perspective on this investigation has some basis in fact when it started out! When any sane person knows that it was based on lies and a political vendetta! And you people have totally lost your mind if you think it has! Mueller and cronies are going down!

this Corruption is very critical to the survival of America WAPO CNN MSNBC AR OBSTRUCTING IT INSTEAD OF FBI RAIDING CLINTON'S HOUSE THEY RAIDED THE WHISTLE BLOWER'S TO DESTROY EVIDENCE MARCH TO DEMAND JUSTICE

“assumed...presidents have constitutional authority to appoint without Senate confirmation, for a short period...acting in good faith”. We operate by assumptions now? Isn’t the appointment for up to 210 days? Not a “short period”, ~15% of a 4yr term. And acting in good faith? Ha!

Not when he’s the subject of the investigation.

dumb.' Fighting climate change is critical to our survival. So is our right to destroy the planet.' yep you can use this for your climate change op-ed.

You get paid to write this nonsense?

Southrngirl77 foxandfriends Thrilled to hear this uplifting statement COMING FROM one of AMERICA’S MOST RESPECTED NEWSPAPERS! Agree 💯% but all I hear is, “PREZ CAN’T fire Mueller, if he dared it would throw country into CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS & TRUMP WOULD BE DONE!”🐘🍀🐘

He has every right to fire Mueller...IF HE'S DONE SOMETHING WRONG, which he hasn't.

That is absolutely stupid. Firing for a corrupt purpose is not a right we should be protecting; in fact, it isn't a right, it's a crime called obstruction of justice.

No, not his right to fire him. Nobody should be above the law in the United States. He is not king.

If it is gonna make America great again, why not? :))

You can make an argument for anything, I guess, if you like arguing.

the peoples' right to transparency and fair democracy was violated long ago... hows that for 'perspective'

WP got ratioed. Hard.

The problem here is that Trump is a subject of the inquiry. Thus he has a vested interest in its outcome. If the special counsel role is to be meaningful, there must be limits on the power of a subject of the inquiry to control, influence, or subvert the course of its activities

Crock of shite. Either the POTUS is above the law, or he isn't. If he can fire the person investigating his crimes, he is above the law. Starr abused his power, but he didn't threaten the existence of our Republic. An unconstrained criminal POTUS is an existential threat.

'idiots perspective'..

Well we know trump doesn't have the 🏀 🏀.. putin and the Saudi prince were seen playing with them earlier today🤦🏽‍♀️

Not really it is purely a political exercise to undermine a stating President to satisfy the vindictive Hillary Clinton & Democrat Machine. It's using the DOJ and FBI as arms of the DNC.

Is perspective different than opinion?

No it’s not. You should not be able to fire the person investigating you!

Where is the money paid for votes or discussions about social media meddling with Russia or deals made if Trump won? Mueller has got nothing and the media continuing to buy into that he does is the affront to democracy, not Trump

Your argument, that Mueller's inquiry is critical to our democracy, was mildly more credible at the start, but he's careened off the path completely. His irresponsible, 'investigate absolutely anything,' approach violates the public trust. Average Americans are completely fed up.

Yes he should be fired no one cares except the Democratics and POTUS haters

Kind of missing the fact that Trump firing Mueller would just be one more count of Obstruction of Justice.

This is a legalistic circle-jerk. It's like a scientist arguing that we /should/ be able to breath underwater, since there is plenty of oxygen down there. If the Pres is not above the law, but the Pres should be able to fire those investigating him, we're at a logical impasse.

So this is what passes for journalism in 2018 from the main exposer of Nixon’s corruption? Today, most journalists and legal experts angle for TV time so they can tell us that Meuller must have so much more than they do. Get off the tube and get the story! It’s YOUR job.

Trump has the right to fire. The House has a right to determine whether that is an impeachable offense. The Senate has the right to convict. Let the system work as intended without the histrionics.

The question answers its self.

An out of line, wayward, unproductive etc, SC might be worthy of being dismissed. Mueller is productive, very secretive thus hardly to be considered wayward, or out of line since again being secretive and productive. Specifically,Trump is the unprofessional worthy of dismissal🤔

No it isn't. Democracy is not contingent upon placing an unelected imbecile above the law...and thereby surrendering any pretense of being an actual democracy. (Though with the Electoral Clown College and a radically unrepresentative Senate in the Legislative, we really aren't.)

Nope

Maybe but it needs to conclude. There’s been nothing to indicate Trump colluded with Russia. And so far it’s all about lying under oath.

I agree. He should be able to fire him. I also agree he then should have to deal with the consequences of doing so.

He's abusing his power, that is WRONG, and is just going to get him into trouble, he does NOT get a pass, he's not a damn King! And he has NO right to fire him without cause, it's in the regs. HE can't fire him anyway.

It is strange that Trump dismisses all who work well. And do not you think that dismissing a person for honest work is a crime?

Dude, bad take.

Clickbait much?
