One person died and seven others were hospitalized in a crash Tuesday afternoon that involved three cars, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

According to Lt. Mana, with the Sheriff’s Office, the crash was reported at about 5 p.m. He said three people in a Ford Fusion were heading south on Raines Vikings Way, attempting to cross Edgewood Avenue West.

“When they crossed, they ran the stop sign. At that time, they struck an oncoming vehicle, a Nissan Altima occupied by four passengers,” Mana said. He said as a result of the crash, the Altima collided with a Cadillac SUV. According to Mana, the driver of the Fusion and the driver of the Cadillac sustained life-threatening injuries. A passenger in the Fusion died.

The other people involved, Mana said, had minor injuries. He did not have the age of the person who died, who was a female. According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the crash closed all lanes of Edgewood Avenue West from Floradale Drive to Carnation Road.“I was coming home from picking up the kids and we couldn’t get through,” Young said. “And that’s when I saw the wreck.”“I have to come out just to turn the corner, and it’s dangerous and you can’t really see what’s coming until you stick the car out a bit,” Young said.
