Brian Brase, a convoy organizer, said in an interview late Saturday that the plan is to drive around the Beltway twice before returning to the Hagerstown Speedway, where the protesters have spent the weekend so far. The convoy, which recently numbered about 1,000 vehicles, intends to repeat that ritual each day this week until the group’s demands are met, Brase said.He said organizers are working with local enforcement to identify weekday times that would have a minimal impact on traffic.
“We’re going to be a huge pain,” Brase said. He said other convoys from across the country are en route to join them and he hopes they continue to grow. “It’s flexible right now,” he said. “It’s a very fluid situation.” “We’re trying to work with our local law enforcement communities because we want them to understand that we are law-abiding citizens that are just exercising our rights to this protest,” he said. But “every day is going to elevate what we do.”
The convoy plans to roll out of Hagerstown about 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Brase said. It could take a while for a group that large to arrive on the Beltway.“We want to show the American people how large we are.” Brase said. “And we want to show our congressional leaders that we’re serious and we are here to negotiate. We are here to talk. We are law-abiding. We are peaceful. We don’t want to shut anything down and we’re not coming downtown.
Still, Brase said, they want their message heard without violence or lawbreaking. “We would like everybody to be able to have a safe, normal commute to and from their workplace,” Brase said. “So we would try to do so in a time that does not cripple the traffic more than necessary. Don’t worry about being late for work.”Comment
dclinenews Do these people feel a little foolish, with the cost of gas going up and the mandates coming down? Really!!!
10 year old me is very excited
WashProbs So the beltway will get up to minimum speed limit? Thanks truckers!
WashProbs So what are the protesting again? I’m confused.
A strong rebuke for the Republican governors of MD and VA.
Usual beltway traffic + gas prices make this a self own.
You say at the minimum speed limit but you don’t define that. What’s that number please?
Will anyone notice? I feel like I'm always going under because of volume, construction, and/or an accident.
Most of them probably aren’t used to D.C. traffic. Self punishment. Also, why are they there again?
They’ll be lucky to reach minimum speed.
Enjoy. Sounds like a normal day on the beltway, except they won't reach the minimum speed limit.
As they complain about high gas prices. Lame.
FlaniganColette Wow….traffic on I-495, what a huuuuge statement 🥱 😴 When isn’t there traffic….what a waste of gas….
Yawn 🥱 The rest of the world has moved on from petty grievances.
Lol it’s Sunday, nobody cares.
FlaniganColette Oh, good. 🙄🙄🙄
So, they’ve given up other work to spend lots of money on fuel to drive here and then drive in circles - to protest mandates that aren’t even in place anymore. This is what I’d expect a two year old to do.
Pretty sure they won’t even reach that speed cause of the traffic anyways but good luck
Making them circle the Beltway is kinda brilliant because these numbskulls will get so frustrated about beltway traffic that they will probably leave in 2 days. 😂😂😂😂😂
Beltway handles over 220,000 vehicles per day. No one will even notice this.
So they’re so they’re going to make traffic better? Thanks!
With Ukraine fighting for their lives and freedom, this convoy seems especially tone-deaf, spoiled, and useless
No one will notice. Traffic backed up on Beltway! Water is wet!
