A driver struck and killed a pedestrian early Saturday morning on state Route 78 in Vista, the California Highway Patrol said Monday.
The crash happened about 3 a.m. near Emerald Drive where a man was walking in the westbound lanes of SR-78, Highway Patrol spokesperson Officer Hunter Gerber said in a news release.— Caltrans San Diego The pedestrian was struck by a Dodge Journey SUV, Gerber said. The man, whose identity remained unknown Monday, died at the scene.The SUV’s driver, a 58-year-old San Marcos man, was not injured in the crash, Gerber said. The driver remained at the scene and was not suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Anyone with information about the deadly crash, or anyone who may have witnessed it, was asked to call the CHP’s Oceanside-area office at 643-3400.
