The Parkland school shooter's death penalty trial is set to begin in January 2020, according to a court order

Cruz is facing 34 counts of premeditated and attempted murder for the massacre of 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Valentine's Day in 2018. Cruz did not make a plea, and instead Judge Scherer entered a not guilty plea on Cruz's behalf.The Broward state attorney is seeking the death penalty. Pretrial motions will be heard on January 13, and jury selection is set to begin on January 27, the court order states.
