'I'm not sure that I want my children to be the guinea pigs for that.' Parents, teachers look anxiously ahead to school.

"Maybe they have less severe outcomes, but when it comes to transmission, kids are important vectors because they'll infect their parents ... and infect their grandparents," said Dr John Brownstein Ph.D., an ABC News contributor, chief innovation officer for the Boston Children's Hospital and professor of epidemiology at Harvard Medical School.

"The president has said unmistakably that he wants schools to open. And I was just in the Oval talking to him about that. And when he says open, he means open in full, kids being able to attend each and every day at their school. The science should not stand in the way of this," White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said Thursday."The science is on our side here."

But many parents say they feel that in the rush to reopen, officials are not focusing on their needs and concerns. Another issue that educators say is not getting enough attention is what happens if a teacher or student tests positive. Bowlby said his wife is also a teacher and they have three young children."We're going to be sending my son into a classroom of 20 kids, my daughter in a classroom with 20 kids. My wife's going to teach 20 kids and I'm going to have a hundred cycling through my classroom. So, I mean, we're going to have a high amount of exposure," Bowlby said.

To be clear. Teachers are letting us know that they are non-essential workers. Kids are safe. We know that. It is extremely important that kids go to school. We know that. But, we are to understand that grocery store workers are more important/critical than teachers. Interesting.

When’s the Florida’s Lottery going to Open? Florida’s Department of Transportation? Agricultural Department Open all the Government Buildings? Then open the Schools

Teacher unions are in charge!

Because data

I bet none of the governors in our country have children going to public schools. They would never force their children to go to school. Why is it ok for our children and grandchildren to be used as beta tests ?

Our children and grandchildren, teachers, and other school employees should not be forced by ignorant governors to attend school. These governors should be removed from office. This is a disgrace to all Americans.

There is also a disconnect between affluent or at least comfortably-employed or otherwise taken care of folks, and people who were ready to go under if they missed one paycheck *before* the pandemic.

What do the Vietnam War & the war on the coronavirus have in common? Trump ran away from fighting in both of them.

Families should not have to choose b/t sending kids to school or their lives. Most kids have been home since March, so their is little data on how COVID19 will effect them. Schools are seeking liability protections as there are no standard protocols in place. KeepKidsHome

Trump’s desire to force kids back to school is a dangerous life threatening policy, just to create the illusion of normalcy for his own political gain. We have technology to hold classes from the safety of homes via computers. Parents must demand home schooling to protect kids.

Why don't you stop acting like public schools are state sponsored babysitters. Maybe moms should just stay home and raise their kids.

What’s the dilemma? It’s in your hands- YOU call it. Those are YOUR children. All you do is say NO, and then don’t. Let the chips fall where they may. Call that bluff. END OF STORY.

Keep schools closed until there is a handle on this disease. And with people not doing what they are supposed to do this disease will never go away. Keep schools closed, wear a mask, and do what you are supposed to do. Don't listen to the moron in the White House he's killing you

I Care Because You Do…

Shutting down of physical teachings will hurt the minority population much more than any other demographic because of the digital divide that still exists and the lack of economic resources for child care, when most blue color workers cannot realistically work from home.

They don’t care about America no matter who you are or what party you belong to. American stupidity pays their bills. Trump supporters are all too willing to sacrifice their own children and ignore science because their political icons have made a mockery of serious ordeal.

People in Chair need to learn lessons , from wise public

The disconnect is that the people in charge are Republicans and they don't give a shit about anybody

Look at all of the other countries who have sent kids back to school or like Sweden, never closed them and they are having huge issues. If masks work so well, why can’t teachers and staff wear them and get their asses back to work

If you don’t want to send your kids back then don’t, but not everyone lives their lives and fear. Life needs to move on

shutdowntrump

The rest of the world did it.

My senior can't wait to get back to class.

Every school year students have to be vaccinated to return to school. There is no vaccine for COVID, so why are we being asked to take a chance with students', teachers', custodians', admin's lives or well being. 🤔

Let’s do the math on social distancing at school! How many sq feet of classroom space? How many students? Here’s a nifty calculator

Sweden was already the guinea pigs. It’s just you make a complete 180 when the science works against your ideology.

Think about the kids is social interaction more important than dying? Pay the parents to teach their kids safely in their home

Too many of the people acting tough and claiming unfounded fears don’t send their own kids to large Public schools nor do they work at large public schools. Something is wrong with that.

🥺stressed for my high schooler and going back to work at a jr high

WorldwideSundayRevival Antichrist is coming. He seduces the saints. Listen to the message.

I’m truly sorry in making this comment. No one., no one should expose their kids. Our kids to an environment that is not safe. & that’s a chance. I won’t take. We can’t. Not now.

Our school system gave us a choice. I chose online schooling for my children.

Understanding Coronavirus and immunity Some governments have suggested that the detection of antibodies.. Understand it from virologists.

If schools hold in person classes where there's community spread the whole day will center around how to keep them and staff from catching coronavirus. The same thing every day. It's worrisome what the psychological effect of that will be. Imagine the anxiety.

Did you say pigs? As in swine? Oh yea swine flu. Rememeber when we closed nothing for THAT flu which actually targeted kids? Oh I forgot, a democrat was in the WH then.

But let them guinea pigs for a 'vaccine'?

In the future, when the truth is revealed and the media can’t force a certain narrative down your throat and make you believe things by repeating insanity over and over again, which side of history do you want to be on? Only you get to choose 🙏🇺🇸

Colorado has the bubonic plague & we're in the pandemics eye of the storm & politicians are like let's send the children out to school despite the those terrorist germs!

Two High schoolers & three grade schoolers and I KNOW I don't want my children being guinea pigs for the ego parade! Hard NO!

they're already the guinea pigs and their parents have been used as the guinea rats for centuries.

Stop using schools as free daycare, and start caring about what these institutions are shoving down their little throats.

Maybe this should have looked at the America Academy of Pediatrics who came out and said kids should go back to school!

Keeping kids out of the classroom will make them ignorant like you. Send them to school.

Yep they should start by vaccinating the establishments
