The leak was first noticed during a routine stormwater assessment, and the District says Silver Spring Township officials were called to help contain the spill.The full message sent to families can be read below:We are writing to make you aware that today, maintenance crews discovered a #2 fuel oil tank leak outside of Eagle View Middle School during a prescheduled, routine stormwater assessment in the area.
Environmental Impact: We are assessing the environmental impact of the leak and are committed to taking appropriate remediation actions to mitigate any potential harm to the environment. It is not believed, according to initial findings, that the seepage is widespread. The 10,000-gallon fuel oil tank initially contained an estimated 3,500 gallons of #2 fuel oil. It was not completely empty upon discovery of the leak.
