The isthmus nation of roughly 4 million people joined more than 60 other countries that have totally or partially banned single-use plastic bags, or introduced taxes to dissuade their use, including Chile and Colombia in the region. On the streets of Panama City, signs with the phrase “less bags, more life” reminded passersby that the measure had gone into effect.

My late husband worked in the plastic bag industry & invented bags that biodegraded in the 70s but the industry didn't want them cuz they were more expensive to make. Paper bags brought roaches in them to your homes. They were terrible for trash so plastic bags were made.

You Don't Need to Put Your Lettuce in Plastic Bags at the Grocery StoreReally, you don't. You can just put it straight in the cart, and everything will be fine. You don't need to put any produce in those plastic bags. You can buy or make reusable mesh bags that weigh very little. I use these for produce all the time. Throw them in the washing machine if they get grimy. HOWEVER, we need to stop plastic at the source! Stores should stop offering 1 use plastics. Grocery carts are a petri dish of colds and flu germs, diaper pee and poop, animal blood, and whatever was on the floor or street transferred by kid's shoes. Why would you want a barrier between all that and the raw food you eat. Crazy.
