Pennsylvania's Secretary of State Al Schmidt reports Tuesday's election went smoothly except for two notable isolated issues that occurred in Northampton and Delaware counties but said neither impacted vote tabulation. Nov. 7, 2023 Screenshot from Commonwealth Media Services websitePennsylvania’s general election went smoothly Tuesday as voters turned out to cast their ballots in municipal and judicial races with just two isolated incidents, said the state’s top election official.
The issue only occurred in cases where voters in that county chose “yes” for one judicial candidate and “no” for the other. The glitch was discovered when voters found the printed record of their votes displayed on a touchscreen had reversed their selection on the questions. “The voting system vendor has taken responsibility for the clerical labeling error,” Schmidt said. He added the department intends to follow up with the county and the vendor to determine why the error wasn’t identified prior to the election.
“It looks from our perspective like the county has done a very good job moving that polling place, doing it so quickly and seeking an extra hour for voters because there was some point where voters could not vote,” Schmidt said. As far as the bomb threat, he said that’s a matter for law enforcement to investigate.
