As a homegrown Elvis impersonator, he thrilled crowds at fundraisers, parties and corporate events with that unmistakable swagger and machismo.

A “superstar” in his own right, Mr. Baxter — “Cat Man Creole” as he was known in his act — died April 18 of pulmonary and cardiac problems. “The crowd went crazy in there when they saw that he had the moves. He was a very entertaining person. “People were drawn to him. It was a lot of laughing. He also had people come up to him asking if he did that professionally and a friend said, ‘You really ought to do this.’ That week, we went out and bought material to make the outfits.”

At the height of his popularity, the couple sold their home in Ross and spent four years on the road.“You gotta try things to get through this life,” his wife said. “We sold the house and bought an RV. My family went nuts.” During his act, Mr. Baxter took to tossing scarves to the crowds while they sometimes threw less appealing items, like the time an older person jokingly threw a water-drenched adult diaper, instead of the traditional female undergarment, onto the stage.“There was a soaking wet Depends on stage,” she said, laughing at the memory. “This stuff happened all the time.
