In the court’s 230-year history, only five other women and three other persons of color have sat on the bench. State Rep. Patty Kim , the first Asian-American to serve in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, said Jackson’s appointment is groundbreaking and long overdue. Kim said Jackson’s confirmation counts as a trailblazing moment, referencing to when the judge told a story about another woman who told her to “persevere” during one of her lowest moments as a freshman at Harvard University.

“Girls can’t be what they can’t see. And this is something where they can now see themselves sitting at the highest court in the United States and it’s just incredible,” Kim said
