Overcoming Complexity For Good Cybersecurity

Digital transformation comes with many benefits, but these changes also bring inherent risks, from the ever-expanding attack surface, such as staff spinning up new cloud instances without security parameters, through a plethora of tools and siloed operations where such tools don't integrate and staff operate in isolation. This all adds friction, slows your cybersecurity operations and hinders collaboration and effective decision-making.

In simple terms, convergence refers to how different, distinct interacting technologies are brought together and integrated into a single platform. For a while now, we've seen the convergence of networking and cybersecurity and the great synergies that come with it. Another example is the convergence of networks such as operational technology with the enterprise network.

Second, consolidation enables you to create a more integrated platform that leverages shared intelligence across your technology stack. A lack of integration between technology tools means gaps in your protection and more noise, leading to alert fatigue. This shared intelligence addresses validation and corroboration gaps, meaning you no longer rely on a single source of truth but rather multiple sources all pointing to the same conclusion.

Now, establish a program focused on eliminating redundant technology and tools and then move on to reducing overlapping technology."Overlapping" refers to tools that have been procured to do the same task. At this point, it may be worthwhile evaluating the full capabilities of each tool, as the capability of many single-function tools may exist within more comprehensive toolsets. These are prime for elimination.
