Outage in downtown San Diego leaves hundreds without electricity [Breaking]

Hundreds of San Diego Gas & Electric customers lost power in the Gaslamp Quarter and surrounding areas Saturday night.

SDG&E reported the power outage on its website around 9 p.m., just as thousands of baseball fans left the Padres versus Dodgers game at Petco Park. SDG&E was assessing the outage to determine the cause. San Diego police said that just before 9 p.m. they received a report of a transformer that blew and caused a power outage for buildings including the San Diego Marriott Gaslamp Quarter. Around this same time, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatched personnel to the nearby area of Seventh Avenue and K Street.

A battalion chief told Fox 5 News at the scene that fire crews initially responded to a call from the Marriott about a structure fire. But what they found was flames and some smoke coming out of the manhole cover in the road, the fire chief said. SDG&E also reported on its website that more than 1,000 customers in the Center City, Balboa Park, Golden Hills, Logan Heights, Mountain View and Lincoln Park neighborhoods were also experiencing a power outage and were working to determine the cause.

We need more affordable housing, period. I am a long-time resident, work full time and am living in my car. We don't have families to help us. Oftentimes, it's our families who abused us! Just rent me a place that I can afford! Thats all we ask! 😞
