Stucky doesn’t suffer from this. He is an effective voice for conservatism in Austin because he deals with facts and has a clear understanding of the role of government. Stucky also recognizes that the Texas Legislature doesn’t need to become a junior Congress, where partisan nastiness paralyzes beneficial legislation and erodes public trust in our institutions. He was rightly frustrated by Democrats’ decision last summer to flee their legislative duties to shut down debate and grind the Legislature to a halt. And he is now considering whether the minority party should be given important committee chairs as it historically has been.
