After more than 100 years of operation, Ohio University's editorially independent newspaper ThePost is in jeopardy.

Without Lewis or this position, the publication would lose its sole, full-time employee, who raises the advertising funds covering biweekly stipends for paid staffers, print editions, travel expenses, and all other expenses — putting all of those challenges into the hands of college students.

Lewis's request to renew the grant was rejected in April due to the reallocation of funding to support a new initiative — the"I was disappointed... but the reality is I understand that as universities grow or universities change that there is a shift in priority and initiatives that they focus on," Lewis told. "So to me, it was just like back to the drawing board. Let's see what's next on the list that makes the most sense [for funding the newspaper].

"In the back of my mind, [I knew] this is something I'm going to have to fight for," said Miller. "I know firsthand how important [Lewis] is to us. I want to make sure that I've been doing whatever I can to fight for this position because I know leaving without this question answered or that funding secured would be leavingstaff, who were able to work on-campus with the rest of their editorial team virtually.
