The film Academy is setting up a task force "to develop and implement new representation and inclusion standards for Oscars eligibility by July 31, 2020."
"While the Academy has made strides, we know there is much more work to be done in order to ensure equitable opportunities across the board," Academy CEOsaid in a statement. "The need to address this issue is urgent. To that end, we will amend — and continue to examine — our rules and procedures to ensure that all voices are heard and celebrated.
The governors, who participated in unconscious bias training in January, also passed a resolution calling for its own bylaws to be amended in order to impose maximum term limits on those who serve on the board. Until now, members who serve on the board, who are elected to three-year terms, have been eligible for an unlimited number of terms, provided they do not serve more than three in a row without taking at least one year off from the board .
Additionally, the board of governors passed a resolution to amend the Academy bylaws to enact maximum governor term limits. Once the amendment takes effect, governors will be allowed to serve on the board for up to two three-year terms , followed by a two-year hiatus, after which eligibility renews for up to two additional three-year terms, for a lifetime maximum of 12 years. The previous limit was three consecutive three-year terms, with a one-year hiatus, and no lifetime maximum.
This is nuts. The award should quite simply go to the best of the best, irrespective of race, sexuality, colour or creed. Otherwise we’ll have a tier of second class awards.

In the end what matters is true talent recognized. Sadly it’s going to a place where ppl are compelled to choice based on gender, racism etc for sake of diversity than talent to avoid backlash. It’s either Oscar is so menor Oscar is so black or in future Oscar is so straight 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Surely the Oscar's should include, like best picture, best performance. This alongside their current categories would be amazing. Any actor could be nominated.
They need to actually make sure people voting are watching the movies. Multiple years in a row there have been reports of voters flat out refusing to watch more diverse films or films that were not your typical Oscar bait. If you don’t want to watch the movies you don’t join!

I have no issue with encouraging diversity, but declaring films ineligible because they don’t meet your criteria, but are otherwise excellent films, is a bridge too far

Hollywood is so self important they think we watch movies for anything other than escapism entertainment. Focus on making dope shit, that’s what the people want
