fell ill from COVID-19, the company’s health and safety officer added the information to her Excel incident spreadsheet, where she kept records of employee trips, falls, and other accidents. Reality quickly set in: a spreadsheet couldn’t keep track of the 71 exposures that other employees had with those two colleagues, says Alan Murphy, head of HR operations for Bimeda.

, offered for free during the pandemic to organizations using Oracle Cloud Human Capital Management. The health and safety application can help companies record employees exposed to the virus, then work backward two weeks—the incubation period for COVID-19—to notify employees who had been in close contact with the infected workers. The application can also offer recommendations about how to clean communal work areas, order protective equipment, and notify external agencies about exposures.

At Bimeda, fortunately no one else has fallen ill so far, and the two employees who became sick have recovered and are back on the job. “As we were talking about workplaces reopening and what Oracle could do to help, our members told us what they need to keep their employees safe and comfortable,” Alarcon says.
