To be clear, primaries are different from general elections, and a lot could change before November. And Republicans certainly haven't ignored inflation altogether as an issue. But in our polarized era, primaries can be decent previews of general election contests, since politicians focus increasingly on turning out the base over persuading moderates, and the relative emphasis on cultural issues so far is striking.
Much of this phenomenon can be tied to Trump’s influence on the party. Trump found talking about economic issues boring and preferred to stir up fights over cancel culture and provoke fears about immigration. While he did boast about economic growth during his tenure, his core case to the public involved mobilizing his base through fear. He constantly conjured up the specter of its loss of status in society and the erosion of its conception of American culture.

This cast of characters is leaving rePublican voters, including white women, no way to avoid self-labeling themselves, if/when they vote rePublican, everything that they have convinced themselves they are not - the worst of the worst.
Because they do internal polling.
Every media outlet is owned by billionaires who benefit from GOP tax policies, they are all paid liars for the GOP. We have no journalists in America, just pro GOP propagandists. Biden's first years have been incredible: 8+ million jobs, 500,000 covid vaccines, infrastructure...

OK, so first, what a ridiculously unfair headline. Second, it’s because the culture war is literally all they have.
Now the GOP can campaign it’s desire to make women second class citizens.
Because it's fascism and they know their base isn't smart enough to follow real issues. All they know are culture wars and being the perpetual victim.
