secupp The primary process is flawed, & too long. No announcing til March 2020. Primaries limited to 2-3 months. house seats should have a 4 year term. With 2 years, they work 1 year & then work to get re-elected. With 4 years we’d at least get 3 years of work out of them!
secupp the same reason vhs won over betamax.
secupp Thank you! This idiotic structure never gets the attention it should.
secupp Primaries should be treated like every other election. Everyone involved with picking a candidate should vote on the same day.
secupp My brother had a great idea. The order of primaries is determined by the percentage of eligible folks who voted in the previous election. You get your people to the polls, you get an early primary.
secupp I wonder this all the time especially given the fact that one of the states elected Steve King
secupp Because we have stupid voters who like to go with a winner and be on a bandwagon. And, we are suckers for tradition?
secupp Because we’re steeped in the arcane traditions of the far past
secupp Pandering to the diner crowd
secupp Let them have something.
Stupidity?! I think several other states like CA, NY, MA and others screwed by trum and fascist GOPers moved up their primaries the bullshit would end.
Trump has proven America lives under the tyranny of corrupt stupidity protected by partisan gaslighting. Real problems go unsolved and corruption is met with inaction.
Lets delete the electoral college and make who wins the most states the president. It's the only way middle america is being taken care of. He'll with the popular vote
From an Iowan: take it away from Iowa! It may be good for the economy with never ending tv ads and visiting candidates, but for those very reasons, it gets old to many of us.
Exactly!
because people don't vote?
They should be grateful to live under the tyranny of those two very welcoming and manageable states rather than someplace difficult to travel to from DC (Alaska) or frighteningly large and diverse (California), although California's moving up in the order of things.
I have long wondered why our primaries are so far apart. Seems to me in a democracy we should all have the chance to vote for any candidate, but we don't. I would like to see all primaries moved to the same week.
We need a single NationalPrimaryDay so that every vote counts. If the DNC believed all of our votes are important they would make this move.
Opinion: Where have u been
Lol! It's funny to watch the MSM Media come to fly over country and 'PRETEND' to care what effects us in Rural States! We work hard! Play harder! Love are faith, family, community and country!
Ask Forrest Gump.
Aren’t both those states worth 10 EC votes in total. What’s the problem?
This is crazy, They would be irrelevant otherwise...
Surely not because of Burnie’s 4th Riech. His brain is frozen in Nazi Germany.
Good question. After 2016 disaster not one move to change this crazy system. It's not that the first states are rural and not particularly progressive, it's that pros long ago figured out how to play this game. It's basically moneyball
I can't read your article because, capitalism, but I recall the ballsy Republican candidate Arnold Vinick, who couldn't stand pandering to the ethanol/corn farming elite in Iowa, yet still went on to win the Nomination. It was fiction of course.😒 alanalda WestWingWeekly
Where...? Not enlightened citizens....just early with too much free time..!
The early political power of Iowa and NH could be instantly negated if one or more relevant states scheduled their primaries at the same time.
You’re wrong. We live under the tyranny of the media and who/what they choose to cover.
Iowa and New Hampshire love the abuse of mega coverage sat trucks, etcetera, and the increase in local sales $, and the attention.
Because they are very white.
“The two states aren’t representative of the country; both are more rural and white than America overall” damn, WaPo, you came so close to identifying the likely-fatal flaw in our electoral system and our apportionment of representation. So close...
Agreed. These are two states that don’t properly represent the diversity - economically, demographically, etc - of the nation.
Oh no! Not the Hawkeyes!
Something something electoral college. Something something good luck overturning the 12th amendment
