Opinion | Lee Drutman: Justin Amash is wrong: We don't need to get rid of political parties, we need more of them. - NBCNewsTHINK

announcing his parting with not only the GOP but also the very concept of party affiliation.

Without parties to put forward programs, limit political choices to a manageable number and engage voters, modern democracy fractures into incoherence. Thus, the answer to the two-party doom loop is not to get rid of partisanship. What we need instead is more partisanship. That is, we need more parties. The binary nature of partisanship in our system echoes every other social conflict we have and rolls them into one sweeping, deafening, zero-sum contest for the soul of the nation, making our political system unworkable.

THINK We do need at least one, maybe two. The two parties we have now are not working on behalf of the majority of the people. We need better choices & if it takes a new party, so be it. Congress could fix the problem with good laws on campaign finance but they won’t. They want money.

THINK I want to know why you voted against the 911 bill?

You play politics you get and good as you give! That isn’t what people are blaming her for. They are blaming her for using his record on busing as a way of insinuating racism in front of millions of people, and then quietly affirming his record as close to her own days later. Right?
