Opinion: The Trump administration keeps spinning its Census scandal

Wilbur Ross By Paul Waldman Paul Waldman Opinion writer covering politics Email Bio Follow Opinion writer March 14 at 3:00 PM There’s a certain kind of baloney that people in politics regularly toss around that is infuriating yet ubiquitous. Republicans are particularly profligate users in areas such as abortion and voting rights. When they pass laws creating needless hurdles for providers offering abortions, they claim what really concerns them is the health and welfare of women.

Everyone understands this — everyone. But the administration, and Ross in particular, pretends that the only reason they want to add a citizenship question is so the Justice Department can properly enforce the Voting Rights Act. Ross also falsely told Congress that he had not talked with anyone in the White House about the citizenship question. In fact, Stephen K. Bannon, then President Trump’s chief political adviser, called Ross to tell him to speak about a citizenship question to Kris Kobach, the Republican Party’s most noted promoter of voter suppression, as Ross later admitted.

Most people don't know that he is the main listening device for all US intelligence agencies.

Wilbur is 500 years old! Why is he in this job

SecretaryRoss you need to stop LYING and RESIGN!

SATAN'S TOOLS SPINNING the wheel so it reads what they want it to read to support their rhetoric and agenda. t-RUMP administration is consistently spinning its web of deceit and amorality. Be aware of their VENOM!

Opinion: WaPo keeps being fake news

Census “scandal”? Are you kidding me?

And WaPo keeps spinning FakeNews.

It’s called lying.

Isn’t this guy on his way to jail for fraud?

It is not a scandal! The left does not want Americans to know how many illegal criminal invaders they have welcomed in and we are subsidizing! It used to be on the census! It never should have been removed! More leftists lies!

So asking someone in America if they’re a legal citizen is bad?

SecretaryRoss is a criminal

Not a census scandal. Citizenship questions are important.

What really is this about? Hahaha. A great big nothing to attach the sword scandal to.

wait you can actually tell how irrelevant the washington post is by how many likes their post get compared to trump. 13.5 mill follows without getting 1000 likes on even one post you are joke bias news source

Scandal? You’re on the wrong side, nutbags.

linc0lnpark He looks just like Betsy's brother.

No scandal. Scandal is about to explode .. snake OBama/Lynch

The scandal is that a judge ruled you cannot ask about citizenship in the census.

Another joke from wapo😂😂😂

Scandal?

The SCANDAL is that Democrats want non-citizens counted when considering congressional apportioning. Transparently SHAMEFUL.

Somebody please call his nurse to take him back. Really he is too old to be in charge of biggest economy.

Disagreement with that opinion doesn't make it a scandal.

Scandal? Let's look at scandal. Although, it shows t weeks ago, this allegedly originated a few months ago.

Oh Wilbur! Are you in trouble?

Wilber's got this.

Exactly how is it a scandal? It's a political belief regarding population. Disagreement with that opinion doesn't make it a scandal.

Dear WaPo,

Billionaire fossils like Ross who are so old they can barely speak are the problem. He won’t be around 5 years to see the damage he’s causing. Another great example of the swamp.

Uh oh. What did Loretta Lynch know, and when did she know it? RUH ROH. What did Glorious Leader Obama know, and when did HE know it?

👎🏼

I would say the opposite is happening considering 20 + Million Non-Citizens = 20 + house of representatives... Kinda like letting non-citizens vote without going to the polls !

Wapo's been in spin overdrive since Weissman left the Mueller Team.

they won't be happy until the can count blacks and browns as 3/5s again.

What an ill-informed opinion. Pass

Based on this cover image I just wanna know what he was tryna hear so hard

I’m going to shout throuytbe door that I’m not a citizen.

Opinion | The college bribery scandal is all about a mythThese parents allegedly tried to prop up the myth of meritocracy even as they undermine meritocracy itself. Wealth. We know. Thanks for the update. I think there is a meritocracy, but it is unsung. Because the meritocrats are more humble and more willing to be in service than the plutocrats. This is why the French invented the guillotine.

Perspective | How to force the Trump administration to follow the law on refugeesPerspective: How to force the Trump administration to follow the law on refugees YOU SHOULDNT HAVE TO FORCE SOMEONE TO FOLLOW THE LAW. THATS NOT HOW IT SHOULD WORK. IF THEY BROKE THE LAW TREAT IT AS SUCH. IF I BREAK YHE LAW I LOSE MY JOB AND GO TO PRISON FOREVER, THERES NO CONTINGENCY TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE ME NOT BREAK THE LAW. Got a problem? Take it to Federal Court. It seems this administration really has no idea on the Constitution and laws, they just do whatever they want. The fan base cheer them on. Hate is a powerful motivator and Trump has proved how to use it.
