Re “High court blocks student loan plan” : It’s interesting, if not disappointing, that this piece on the front page states that the Supreme Court opinion “imposes new restrictions on presidential power.” If anything, the decision reinforces the constitutional concept of separation of powers between Congress and the president.

As then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi once noted, only Congress has the power to eliminate debt, not the president, and she was cited in the majority’s opinion to emphasize the point. Moreover, the writer also fails to point out that Joe Biden himself had doubts that he had the constitutional authority to wipe out this debt.No matter — Biden went ahead anyway and made a campaign promise he knew he couldn’t keep, making
