Wonder Land: Coronavirus lesson #1: The U.S. is willing to shut down for three months, but that’s about it. Images: Getty/Twitter/Lawler50/via Reuters Composite: Mark KellySchools should open in the fall. It’s critical for meeting the educational and social needs of children. But local officials should have the discretion to take tailored actions to help keep children safe. One thing about Covid-19 is clear: We don’t fully understand its severity and transmission.
The debate over schools has been swept up in a political maelstrom. Reopening schools will draw more controversy if people believe their school district was forced...
opinion ScottGottliebMD As President Trump said, “In Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and many other countries, SCHOOLS ARE OPEN WITH NO PROBLEMS. The Dems think it would be bad for them politically if U.S. schools open before the November Election, but is important for the children & families.”
LmkTonyG opinion ScottGottliebMD What if they give each child a watch that beeped whenever they are within 6 feet of another😏 🤔 Never mind! Teachers are going crazy already watching your bad kids, add a constant beep and it's over🖐🏾
opinion ScottGottliebMD 3.1.1.6.1.3...
opinion ScottGottliebMD Looks like LA said NOPE to that idea.
opinion ScottGottliebMD Perhaps it will even help focus& concentration rather than distractions that teachers battle so as to teach to attentive respectful obedient students who want to learn. Too much to ask or expect!!!
opinion ScottGottliebMD Mr. Gottlieb wrote a good oped. Noted was sttmt 'But local officials' (I would add teachers/staff) 'should have discretion to take tailored actions to keep children safe.' There's the rub. Not addressed; extreme heat & cold, closed windows, aged ventilation, heating, AC systems.
opinion ScottGottliebMD At least Opinion finally found a doctor to talk about schools reopening. I can't help but notice he does not mention the risk to teachers, administrators or other staff, focusing primarily on the risk to students. Who is quarantined when a teacher tests positive?

opinion ScottGottliebMD Stop ignoring the very real life-and-death threat to the health of teachers, aides, janitors, bus drivers, administrators, and others of the 5+ million workforce in US schools.
opinion ScottGottliebMD In the WSJ writers room: “We got one! We found a doctor who will say we should risk children’s lives!” “Run it”
opinion ScottGottliebMD The evil man in the WH now wants to risk our kids without a plan-no I say-he a crazed person without conscience. Crazy should not be a leader!
opinion ScottGottliebMD Betsy Devos and staff should volunteer to teach in a school in their districts without the benefit of PR to promote grandstanding. No daily testing unless everyone in the school is given the test daily.
opinion ScottGottliebMD This will only work with rapid testing to contain outbreaks. Lower schools can easily keep kids in the same small groups due to curriculum to make for reasonable tracing. Also teachers should be encouraged to get MMR booster for some protection.
opinion ScottGottliebMD Keep school building closed !
opinion ScottGottliebMD Stop with the children’s risk! It’s the teachers, subs, school bus drivers, kitchen staff, maintenance crew and administrators who are at high risk. Get real!...
opinion ScottGottliebMD How can you expect students to have masks on ALL day? They will touch their faces, contaminated masks, and will have to drink/eat. Masks will get contaminated after a few hours,
opinion ScottGottliebMD Have you ever seen the size of a classroom? Typically teacher/student ratio, you would need more than a classroom to safely social distance.
opinion ScottGottliebMD If liberal teachers do not want to teach, fire them and hire ones who don't indoctrinate students.
opinion ScottGottliebMD
opinion ScottGottliebMD If EVERYONE wears a mask and social distances.
opinion ScottGottliebMD Yes, if the federal government opens their pocketbook to lower class size, pay for PPE, hire more guidance counselors and social workers, and pay the costs of cleaning the buildings daily. We cannot expect schools to fix the failures of society alone.
opinion ScottGottliebMD Just spend the money and yeah
