Opinion: Manafort’s sentence last week was absurd. That shouldn’t matter Wednesday.

Paul Manafort is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson on Wednesday. By Harry Litman Harry Litman Contributing columnist focused on legal issues Bio Follow Contributing columnist March 12 at 4:46 PM U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson is set to sentence Paul Manafort on Wednesday in federal court in Washington. Look for her to play it by the book ― which is precisely the opposite of what U.S. District Judge T.S.

The range that Ellis concluded was excessive reflected a consensus judgment by the federal sentencing commission to calculate sentences in such financial fraud cases based on the amount of money the victims lost; in Manafort’s case, the figure exceeded $10 million. Even a plainly guilty defendant, as Manafort surely was, still has three ways to serve society so as to properly lower his fair sentence.

Third, a guilty defendant is often in a position to help bring confederates to justice by cooperating with the prosecution. It’s a painful position — no one likes to be a “rat,” to use a word Trump seems to favor. But again it’s one of the few ways a guilty defendant can serve the greater good, and the reward for that can take the form of a dramatically reduced sentence.

It's Howdy doodle time, time to meet new friends in the pen behind the walls with those un like you who've been having to serve long stretches for doing far less than you. Punished harshly wish you were, well deserved unlike them who were hungry, did not sell out man & country.

Until Tony Podesta comes out of hiding and stands trial, Manafort shoulder be into prison attack all.

The ride is smooth 4 those who play along, not so 4 those speaking out, 4 them their made 2 walk the roads rough through life, so it is, when truth is sought, this most know, so! What's new, as if we can't see the fight is tough. Stand on the side of God, be strong & be right.

Well reasoned. It strengthens our society to have norms followed and the intent of law applied, even to those who have made a career of abusing them and have previously escaped full justice

Cardinal Pell got 6 years for child rape. Do some real reporting.

Someone sounds bitter

Awesome editorial

Al Capone only got 11 years. Manafort's a crook, but not like Capone. Hillary's lied to the FBI & Congress, destroyed subpoenaed documents, accepted $145m from Russia for her 'Foundation', but given a pass by Obama's FBI & DOJ..

Mueller has it all. Any day now!!! I swear, for real any day now this time!!! -Q

Hahahahaha you mad?

At least this time there is no 'otherwise good life' as Manafort is a convicted felon. Just white wealthy privilege.

Trump will troll with a pardon after 2020 election either way
