Opinion | Chuck Rosenberg: President Trump's reported meddling with Jared Kushner's security clearance is reckless — and totally legal. - NBCNewsTHINK

for many reasons, including the fact that it theoretically put at risk both the source of the information he passed and signaled to our closest allies around the world that we perhaps cannot be trusted with sensitive information they routinely share with us. I can only imagine the reaction among the senior officials in the intelligence services of those allies when our president spilled some number of beans to the Russians.

We do this for a reason: to ensure that the men and women who hold clearances and see our most important intelligence can be trusted with it. Overwhelmingly, these professionals maintain that trust. The few scoundrels who do not are typically prosecuted and imprisoned or, as in Edward Snowden’s case, where they can live out their lives as cowards and traitors, beyond our reach. And, by the way, which country did Snowden choose? Russia, of course.

The president has the authority to bypass this carefully calibrated system. He may, if he so chooses, grant a clearance to anyone he wants, including his unqualified son-in-law. He may override the recommendation of career officials. He may be as foolish and as reckless as he wants with our nation’s secrets and with the secrets of our allies. That seems like a crazy sentence to write, but it is essentially true.

So, if Kushner is not qualified to hold a top-secret clearance, and the president granted one to him anyway, is that permissible? Yes. But is it OK? No, not even close.Chuck Rosenberg is a former United States attorney, senior FBI official and Drug Enforcement Administration chief. He is currently an MSNBC legal analyst.

THINK Reckless? , what did you dummies call it when 0bama hired Holder , Rice and VJ ? All no fly listers .

THINK Nepitism plain and simple. JFK did it too.

THINK He will break laws, dodge issues & willing to litigate & may avoid Mueller or beat him to punch. Sorry to say but most dangerous president in US History.

THINK You who wants Kushner and Ivanka out of the White House more than you guys? Trump supporters. They don't like the liberal influence (and it's a lot) they have on Trump. Are you still sure you want to complain about this?

THINK Did you guys know Kushner and Ivanka are liberals? Prominent liberals are doing their work in the administration through them.

THINK Kushner is the liberal influence on Trump. Why do you guys want this to stop. They are the liberals in the White House working for liberal causes.

THINK POTUS used his lawful discretion in the matter. Anyone elected president can do the same.

THINK 'The great' Obama gave questionable security clearances at least 165 times, including pedophiles (some other than Joe Biden) and felons -- but of course, it's not cool to taint the great one's legacy, so MSM = crickets!

THINK Wait a minute, whose tax dollars are supporting the administrative support of the office of the president and Kushner does not have a real security clearance. I don't trust him to support and defend the Constitution.

THINK If Little Jared has a security clearances so should every voter and taxpayers.

THINK Well it’s legal but corrupt and suspicious as shit.

THINK

THINK Then why lie about it?

THINK Lock both up

THINK Joseph Nye Welch’s plea is apropos, 'At long last, have you left no sense of decency?'

THINK Totally dictatorial and stupid. Nepotism! A slap in the face to all Americans!

THINK Trump is inferior to everyone & is actively working against America's interest.

THINK Trumps family is criminals American is under attack. LockThemUp

THINK Then why all the lies

THINK It’s Reckless because Chuck Rosenberg says so. This is the same dude that said Obama paying $400 Million to Iran in exchange of hostages was a brilliant move.

THINK Legal:Maybe.moral?

THINK “when you look at that man-if you know he is a coward, you won’t fear him. If he wasn’t a coward, he wouldn’t gang up on you-they put on a sheet so you won’t know who they are-a time will come when the sheet will be ripped off-If the fed gov doesn’t take it off, we’ll take it off

THINK Sadly, the best we can expect from this POTUS is that he doesn’t break the law. Wonder what his enablers would say if this were Obama or worse Hillary. The ends never justify the means. Sad. Bigly.

THINK ...and still impeachable.

THINK We need to update our laws.

THINK He us family. He is trusted. The end. There is nothing illegal about it.

THINK That’s what grifters do

THINK The loyalty to one's country we always believed dictated our leader's decisions is gone and we need to pass a law making it impossible for any one person to override security clearances from the intel community to protect our country from nepotism, corruption and abuse of power.

THINK You didn’t call 0bama’s boneheaded no brainer high risk security clearances “reckless” and they were criminal .

THINK May be legal, but is surely dangerously wrong not even taking the nepotism into account

THINK SpeakerPelosi AnnCoulter nytimes Trump is some one masquerading as the President. He knows he is guilty of conspiracy to collude, Obstruction of Justice is in plain sight. Trump is reckless and certainly does not have the intelligence to hold the highest office in the land.

THINK When you’re already an agent of a foreign entity, what’s a few more State secrets? Trump’s shown Russians Israeli documents less than one month into his Presidency. Kushner’s running around the with nuclear plant plans

THINK Hey what the hell, while he’s at it, he should get a clearance for the whole klan. Tiffany, Donnie , Eric, and the other one.

THINK when a person is involved with a foreign govt accepting bribes & favors of millions of $$$$ they should not have a security clearance/.that is a direct security violation/. legal,, it is not/.

THINK There is a difference between legal and wise. Things might be legal but unwise, against better judgement for security reasons. The issue here is how much of this is for convenience or necessity? NO TRUST!!

THINK But the question america need you to answer do you think trump is guilty with obstruction of justice .

THINK It’s for a family member, which makes it crazy that the Pres ignored this advice. Unfit to Lead

THINK This notion that any US President can give top secret classified clearance to anyone is BS...especially when our National Security is at risk.

THINK

THINK President Trump is playing careless politics with the presidency.

THINK It's as legal as any other Abuse of Power. There's a difference between 'authorized' and 'legal' or 'ethical' or 'appropriate.'

THINK Everyone knows this, is Trump going to be held accountable is the big question?

THINK He can do what he wants. Next.

THINK Duh !

Jared Kushner is 'beating heart' of 'corrupt and deeply evil' Trump administration, says Harvard's Laurence Tribe“Jared Kushner of 666 Fifth Avenue is the beating heart of this unprecedentedly corrupt and deeply evil administration,” says Harvard's Laurence Tribe about the first son-in-law. Yeah love it, some Harvard goons interpretation of evil is just exactly what we needed, likely one of the best indicators that we are definitely on the right track. And as for the few of you whom find favor in his opinion, now you know what it was like during Obama era. waiting for the indictments to include Kushner and the Trump Crime family I read the article and didn’t find one scintilla of evidence or proof that supports these horrific accusations. Once again the left throws s—t on the wall to see what sticks.
