Given the spread of COVID-19 around the U.S. and the uncertainty of how many people actually have it due to lack of testing, it's conceivable that someone participating in a tournament game will be carrying the virus.

Next week, about 1800 college basketball players and a few hundred more coaches will fly in from college campuses around the country and congregate at multiple NCAA tournament sites.

As you grapple with that scenario — admittedly a hypothetical, but not one that is particularly far-fetched right now — it leads to an inevitable question. The tone of the debate around what to do with college basketball’s showcase event has undeniably changed as of Tuesday. “The NCAA continues to assess how COVID-19 impacts the conduct of our tournaments and events. We are consulting with public health officials and our COVID-19 advisory panel, who are leading experts in epidemiology and public health, and will make decisions in the coming days.”Here’s the problem with the COVID-19 situation. We don’t know how many people have it or are going to get it, but we know it is spreading in the U.S.

March Mehness will begin — fear leads to failure

Are the NCAA games more important than the fans health and safety. NCAA should think 🤔 of the safety of the students, our children 👶

It’s PROBABLE that many at the various tournaments currently have C19. NoExcuseForLackOfTests

This is the stupidest thing ever written. They are not going to cancel the tournament or restrict fans because of 'the flu'. The kill rate at the very worst is 3%. The elderly and people with immune deficiency's can stay home.

Stop already........

Over the past few weeks, there have been hundreds of games played across the nation where thousands of students and non-students were in attendance up to testerday. Has there been one incident of virus exposure? I think we might be overreacting to suggest cancellation of tourney.

What a FUCKING joke!!! MassHysteria CalmDown LetThemPlay MediaOverplaysEVERYTHING

What in the hell are we doing people? It’s a virus. There is no cure. The only way to become immune is to get it. We cannot hide from a virus. Wash your hands, practice good hygiene and live your life. 98% will survive if you get it. Live free folks.

usatodaysports

You don’t know that for sure? Why panic people? I don’t get the media’s position in this hysteria.

So don't touch your face and wash hands often , 20 seconds of rubbing

Let’s create more panic

usatodaysports Ban Wolken from all tournament games.

usatodaysports This is an overreaction. Even if they have to play the games without any fans they should continue with the tournament ... can’t have a season go for naught.

Stupidity is also contagious. You should quarantine yourself

Yes it is! It is time to cancel this event along with the High Point Furniture Market! NC_Governor

It's hard to take this article serious when clearly they didn't think it through. How exactly would one player compete against 2 teams who are in the Sweet16?

No Its not you Looney leftists.

' Ugh..... spreading the bacteriA……………….!'

RUNFORYOURLIVES!!!!

Cancel March Madness? Blasphemy.

Media pushing fear. All this for 105k cases. But do you have toilet paper?

So even though there are far worse diseases that spread easier than Corona, we are gonna cancel the entire tourney for a disease that can be countered by washing your hands? It’s this type of bull shit that forces me to buy the shitty toilet paper cause no one else would dare

Conferences of all types are being cancelled all over the country. March Madness doesn’t need to be cancelled. How about everyone watch it on tv and have no crowds at the game.

Also given the fact that its a mild illness for most people and they might not even know they have it or have any symptoms of being ill...

Not happening lol. Not having fans at games and only playing it on TV is definitely a possibility.

You’ve lost your ever-loving mind!! If there is any 💵💵💵 around, the NCAA will jump through anything to grab it. Moral police are not at NCAA.

Oh, stfu already

ugh.

No! The show goes on!

Is baseball next?

🙏may God help us

Omg , why don’t we all close the doors to all of our homes and not ever come out again .

No!

The Wuhan virus will go away just like every other one. Quit the overhyping

And then the virus wins.
