Opinion by Leland Lazarus: Diversity among diplomats will strengthen U.S. foreign policy

protests to highlight what it considered U.S. hypocrisy: condemning China for suppressing the 2019 Hong Kong protests yet, months later, dealing harshly with nationwide Black Lives Matter protests.

I was a Foreign Service officer in Barbados when Floyd’s killing sparked global protests for justice. During that time, Black and Brown diplomats were called upon to openly and honestly share the nation’s long struggle with racism and admit that we are a country of contradictions, a home of hypocrisies. We also explained that Americans have always possessed the capacity to change, to right our wrongs, to bend with every ounce of our strength that moral arc of the universe toward justice.

To persuade the broader world of U.S. greatness, however, it is essential to make sure our representatives abroad look like people in the United States.Black and Brown Americans are uniquely qualified to represent our country. Many of them grew up in bilingual households, which means the government may spend less time and resources training them in regional studies or language lessons.

How can we get back to treating people equally when so many smart and good hearted people keep trying to sort people out by how they look?

Nope… that’s just BS… Qualified people will strengthen the US if that cast is diverse ok but color and who you bang don’t do crap for your negotiation skills

You do know U.S. foreign policy is really just a cover for money laundering , don't you?

Because Arab nations can't wait to negotiate with transgender westerners.

I suppose it's not uncommon for diplomats to talk so much and yet say little. The article did manage to cram together as many buzzwords into as little space as possible though

USA were never weaker. White America ruled the world.

Been hearing about “diversity being our strength” for a couple decades now and can’t wait to actually see how!
